Diabetes Education & Management

The health department provides services to persons with diabetes, their families, physicians & the community.

For the person with diabetes, the health department has:

  • individual information requests over the phone
  • diabetes classes (family members welcome, too)
  • personalized nutrition counseling through the public health clinics
  • clinical services with a doctor or other health care provider

 In the community, we offer:

  • monthly diabetes support groups at the Lexington Senior Citizens Center, UK Polk-Dalton Clinic, the Nathaniel Mission and Ballard-Griffith Towers. 
  • training and consultation to health professionals about the latest in diabetes management
  • talks and community programs
  • participation in community coalitions

Change in services: Effective May 20, 2014, we are able to provide childhood vaccinations (must live in Fayette County, be 18 years or younger and be uninsured or underinsured). Limited appointments are available daily Monday-Friday, and appointments can be made up to a week in advance by calling the Public Health Clinic at (859) 288-2483.

Our Public Health Clinic at 650 Newtown Pike is no longer able to see patients for the following programs: adult immunizations/physicals and breast/cervical cancer.
