New Healthy Living Classes

The Health Department is now offering FREE community education classes to help people with weight loss, diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.  Most classes are held at the Health Department Annex, 805 Newtown CircleSeating is limited and registration is required .  Reserve your spot for these free classes by calling 288-2423.


Healthy Families Class for Parents

This free class is for parents of  2 – 14 year-olds and covers lifestyle changes for healthy childhood weight. Suggestions include easy meal planning and physicial activity.

Healthy Weight Basics

This 1 1/2 hour class will review how to lose weight in a safe, healthy way.  Topics covered include:

  • MyPyramid
  • portion control
  • food labels
  • physical activity guidelines

October 21, 11 am - 12:30 pm

Healthy Heart

At this class, you will learn how to lower your cholesterol and blood pressure in order to improve the health of your heart and to reduce your risk of having a heart attack or stroke.

Diabetes Basics

Learn the basics of managing your diabetes in this two-hour class.  We discuss foods to eat, how to check your blood sugar, and other ways of keeping your self healthy for a lifetime.  

September 8, 10 am - 12 noon

October 13, 3 - 5 pm

Diabetes Meal Planning

This class is for those who have already attended the Diabetes Basics Class and wish to learn more about food and diabetes.  We will review carbohydrate counting, strategies for eating out at restaurants, and more. Call 288-2423 for times and dates.
